2008 FNRA Merchandise

The Standard Merchandise package has become the hallmark for Friends of NRA events around the nation. Friends of NRA works directly with vendors to offer one-of-a-kind, quality merchandise that is sure to please even the most selective collector and outdoorsman. The Standard Merchandise package consists of artwork, firearms, and other limited-edition products offered by companies with a longstanding history with Friends of NRA.

2008 Gun Of The Year

Weatherby Orion D’Italia O/U 12GA Shotgun

Weatherby brings tradition and elegance to this year’s Gun of the Year with the introduction of the Orion D’Italia shotgun, a collaborative effort on part of Weatherby and the firm of Fausti Stefano—one of Italy’s finest gunmaker.

This exciting new custom shotgun includes a patented and exclusive four-lock system, blued receiver, auto ejectors, 24k gold plated single selective trigger with checkering, and barrel selector on the safety. Features 28-inch blued barrels with 3 inch chamber, vented mid-rib, chrome lining and Weatherby IMC Briley compatible multi-choke system. Stock includes Prince of Wales half-round pistol grip, slim forend, precise wood to metal fit and finish on all interfaces and 20 LPI precision cut checkering. The custom designed embellishment by Baron’s Engraving depicts two game scenes; on one side, a pair of mallard ducks take flight and on the other, two ring-neck pheasants look for cover. Each gun comes sequentially numbered with a limited production of 1,150.

Friends of NRA maintains a list of wildlife and military artists, and firearms and general merchandise vendors. Product submission information is sent to these contacts each year. In preparation of the 2008 package selection, information packets will be mailed in September 2008 (for artists) and December 2008 (firearms and general merchandise.)

2008 Print of the Year

Giclée “Cold Plunge” by Dan Smith

From the widely acclaimed and award winning nature artist, Daniel Smith, comes the exciting and hauntingly beautiful 2008 Print of the Year, “Cold Plunge.” Known for his extraordinary attention to lifelike detail, Smith provides a chilling yet serene effect using icy colored hues and contrasts of light and dark; sunlight lines the grizzly on the left whereas the right is covered with a dark and hazy ocean mist. The surrounding sea seems to engulf the entire creature, as he looks to the horizon to catch one last glimpse of sunshine on his face before he takes another refreshing dip into the arctic waters. The detail of the water on his fur and the glacial look on his face create a slightly cold and distant emotion while the illuminating provides warmth and connotes happiness. Together, these two distinct elements symbolize the dynamics of natural wonders. In this way, Smith captures a glimpse into wildlife and draws the viewer into the scene, as if he or she is right there. Friends of NRA has reproduced this painting as a giclée on canvas stretched and printed with fade resistant inks. Each giclée comes framed in an espresso walnut frame with an oatmeal liner. Image size measures 24 x 12 inches and 30.25 x 18.25 inches with the frame. Each piece is signed and numbered to 1,150. Printed and framed in the USA.

Talent and expertise meet with this year’s Knife of the Year Set, handcrafted by the fine craftsmen at W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery. Each knife features a fluted bolster, NRA logo recessed in the stag handle, mirror polish Tru-sharp™ surgical steel blades consecutively serialized through 1,150. Each set comes packaged in a custom W.R. Case wood display unit. The case includes hidden high-strength magnets to hold the blades in place, but allow for removal and handling of each knife. NRA Safari Cartridge Collection

The “Kitjitu Wawinda” (which means “Little Safari” in Swahili) is a scaled down version of the Safari Collection.  Showcasing 11 of the most popular cartridges used for very large, dangerous game within the vast interior plateaus and coastal plains of Africa, the collection is set behind glass and measures approximately 10.5 x 17 inches.  Each item includes the NRA logo and is limited in production to 1,100 units for Friends of NRA.

“Living Large” Sculpture

“Dawn of A Nation” by Brian Hart

Freedom is emancipated as we witness the birth of America through this historically accurate and symbolic painting by award winning artist Brian Hart.  Hart skillfully conveys a sense of depth and a variety of textures in his light-filled work.  His historical painting tells a visual story to which viewers can connect with emotionally.  In this scene, the formerly oppressed citizens of British Parliament transform into American

“Pride” by Scot Storm

“Deuces Wild” Giclée by Gary Swanson

The popular print of Gary Swanson is remade and resurrected with this classic piece, brought back to Friends of NRA this time as a giclée canvas.  Swanson is best known for his use of bold colors and hard, defined lines; even the littlest of details are brought to the foreground.  His vivid perception of wildlife creates timeless pieces that breathe life into any room or blank wall.  Here for the second time, “Deuces Wild”

makes its appearance on an upgraded medium, the giclée, a form of fine art production that uses ink jet printing to capture every detail to a crisp, clean quality.  A connoisseur of movement of light and color, Swanson portrays this pair of deer running freely in the fields.  Their muscular structure is highlighted with shades of gold running throughout their bodies, which matches the overall autumn color scheme of the entire painting.  This giclée canvas measures 28 x 19 inches and 34.25 x 25.25 inches with the frame.  Each canvas comes framed in red mahogany with an oatmeal linear and is numbered through 1,100.
